The Southeast Farm Press reports that Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) enrollment is underway. Click here to read more.
In my opinion, CSP is one of the better government farm programs. Unlike CRP, it does not remove land from production. It simply rewards producers who implement good stewardship practices, and uses incentives to encourage further conservation efforts.
Past sign-ups were short-lived, as this program is always underfunded. Entry into the program is on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning that an interested farmer who delays may not be able to participate. In any case, the sign-ups end on September 30, 2009.
